Elections Should be Exciting

You may be of the opinion that I'm completely wrong on this issue and that is OK. I understand that anyone would say hey, "Elections should be boring". However, perhaps I can tell you the reasons why elections should be exciting, and we can simply agree to disagree.

So, elections should be exciting. Why? Well, let us take a step back and think what elections are: we have come together as a country, city or group of people and we need to decide how things should be run, and/or who will make decisions on our collective behalf in the future. While in principle we basically want the same things: freedom for all, prospects for a better future, and maybe even a little happiness and so on. We differ on how these can be achieved. Boy does it get complicated! Where should we spend or money and effort? Perhaps going to space, protecting the environment, or redistributing wealth? Or maybe simplyfing laws, protecting us from them, or securing natural resources? Whatever you believe is most important, you probably have a good reason looking into the future. Something that you believe in, something that is important to you. Of course it matters! You may be convinced space is the final frontier, efforts which give hope, and advance our scientific understanding. So many benefits such as water filtration and solar cells have arisen from this quest. Perhaps you believe more people should cherish this too. Elections are an exciting time to see, how many people really agree with you, wether what you hoped for will come true.

If you are not excited about your future, what else should you pour effort and soul into? What could be more important than the world around us, and how we shape the future for our offspring? Elections should be transparent enough so that it is clear what you are voting for. We should cherish the decisions that set the course for the future. As a society we can always be better, we can always progress to distribute, the energy the sun gives us and the matter obtained we dig up from earth, better. To achieve what we want. Such monumental stakes can't be taken lightly, they need some emotion, some excitement to keep you engaged. If you are not excited about elections, what else can you be excited by?

I have repeated myself often enough. Sometimes I get excited about elections and I believe that is a good thing.
